About: I am Matthew Lewis, a photographer living in Tampa Florida and I regularly travel away from my home area in order to fulfill my photographic vision.
History: I gained a love of photography at a young age, when I was a child my father was constantly taking family pictures, and every holiday, one of my favorite activities was looking through the family photo albums at grandma’s house. I picked up a camera seriously as a teenager and have not stopped since then.
Process: My style has evolved over the years and now I find myself drawn to make Astro landscapes. I start with a vision for the image I want to achieve, I then research and scout for locations where I can execute that idea. Next I plan the date by watching weather forecasts, the phases of the moon, and the season of the year. Once all other factors are taken into account, I must wait for my target constellation to be in the right part of the sky for my desired composition. A typical imaging session will last for many hours and sometimes I will be out all night. Editing at home into a final image takes many additional hours.
Personal ethos: My goal in photography is to capture the awe and wonder of how I see the world. I have set a rule for myself that I will not combine a sky taken in one place with a landscape taken in another location, nothing can be added to what I experienced.
